Camilla Kay has stepped down as executive editor at Glamour UK to join the British Beauty Council in the newly created role of director of communications and events.
In her new role, which started last week, she will “oversee digital communications, press and media relations and activations,” according to the British Beauty Council.
She heads up a team which includes Nicole Dove, digital media manager, and Brooke Steele, digital and social media assistant. Her role has been created to “strengthen and amplify” the trade body’s strategic objectives.
Kay’s initial priorities include strategic planning for campaigns and events in the coming year, as well as a new website build and design review.
She reports to Millie Kendall OBE, chief executive, British Beauty Council, who said: “We are delighted to welcome Camilla to the team, marking an exciting period of development.”
Kendall added: “Leading on the strategy and direction of content, communications and events, Camilla's creativity will take the Council's outputs to the next level enabling us to solidify our influence in the sector and build our ever-growing network.”
Kay, who joined the British Beauty Council’s media advisory board last year, has spent the past five years at Glamour UK. Prior to that she was content and communications director at home hair colour brand, Josh Wood Colour. Other past roles include acting deputy editor and associate editor at InStyle magazine.
Commenting on her new position, she said: “With a background in beauty journalism, the beauty industry has been instrumental in shaping my media career. This new role is an exciting opportunity to join the Council team to shape and support this important industry, valued at £30.4bn and making up 1.1 per cent of UK GDP.”
